About Julie

I have been interpreting in the community, in a freelance capacity for approximately 20 years. In that time I have been the South Wales Regional Chair of ASLI, Regional Representative and National Secretary for ASLI. Between 2006 and 2008 I was a Supervisor in the BSL Futures Project, supervising apprentice Interpreters. I have obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in BSL/English Interpreting from UCLAN. I am also the proud recipient of the Jackie Moore Memorial Award 2007 for services to the Deaf Community, as voted by the South Wales Deaf Community.I spent two happy years interpreting in New Zealand working for Deaf Association New Zealand in Wellington, between 1997 and 1999.

Expertise: I also offer training for BSL/English Interpreters, particularly in the field of mental health interpreting and cultural mediation. I have also presented at various conferences on Interpreting matters, in particular Mental Health. I have extensive experience in most community domains as a freelance interpreter.I have thoroughly enjoyed mentoring and supervising TSLIs.

I currently teach for Signworld on the iBSL and Signature Diploma and am a qualified assessor (TAQA). BSL is my native language having Deaf parents.
